STUDY TIME

I have noticed more students taking ownership of their learning!! The students were told last week about an upcoming math test that will be happening on Friday. A couple of students have been asking me if they can take the text book home so that they can practice the questions. My answer to that.... OF COURSE!!! Way to go to those students! (You know who you are) :)

Math test on Friday- see previous blog posting to know what the test will be about.

The students will also be tested text week in Science on the topic of light. See below for their learning intentions. These are the topics that we have been learning. If the students can say that they are able to do this and give you examples of their learning, this will help them with their studying. Another way to help your child study is have them teach you the material. You can then ask open ended questions which will promote further thinking.
Learning Intentions: -I am able to describe the sources of light and explain the difference between natural and artificial light -I am able to explain what transparent, translucent and opaque is and tell the difference between all three. -I am able to explain what a reflection is and its importance. -I know how to describe a refraction. -I can explain spectrum and prism.

Homework for the weekend

Hope you enjoy your weekend in the snow!
This weekend it would benefit the students if they practiced their multiplication tables. We will be having a multiplication test next week.
On the test:

-Being able to solve 2 digit and 3 digit by 1 digit multiplication equations using a variety of strategies.
-Strategies could include (using base 10 blocks, re-grouping method, hundred's method, grouping, arrays, etc.)
If the students have their single digit multiplication tables memorized it will help them to complete the 2 and 3 digit equations faster.
Choose a multiplication fact to practice each day for a couple of minutes a day. It is amazing how quickly they will learn.

-Don't forget to read your library books too! :)

UPDATE

Many of you have probably quickly discovered that we are not in our new classroom yet. The students have been such troopers and amazing learners considering the circumstances. We are staying positive and excited about our new record of 3 classrooms in 1 year! Our classroom as of now is in the multipurpose room, therefore we are still entering and exiting out of the same back door where the playground is. The meeting for approval was today, you will find out when I find out when our actual move date is. (We are hoping for Monday).
Thank you for your patience!
Ms. Robertson
