SOME CHANGES TO THE WEEK

Just a quick update as some things have changed this week.
Please bring a bag on Thursday to bring your belongings home. This will include: gym strip, shoes, pencil case, etc. Our desks will need to be completely cleared out on Thursday for the move into our new classroom.

On Friday some things have changed as well. Please see below for the shape of the day:
8:45-10:15 Classroom gift exchange. I have asked the students to please bring a gender neutral gift of a limit of $5.00. This could be anything from gift cards to lego to fun things from the dollar store. Please have your gift wrapped with nothing on it, meaning no labels saying who it is from. We are going to play a game with the presents. During this time we will be able to share goodies in the class as well.
10:15-10:30 Recess
10:30- 12:00 School Assembly
12:00-12:45 lunch
12:45-2:38 Movie in the gym

If for any reason you are not able to bring a gift on Friday, please let me know ASAP so that I can provide so that everyone will be able to participate. Thank you. You can leave a note in the planner or come talk to me before or after school.
Your child does not need to bring anything to school on Friday except for a lunch. Thank you.

Ticket in the door: Where in the world is there a heart shaped coral reef???? *hint* just tell me which continent it is in.

New Year Routines

Starting in the new year we are going to get into some new routines.
1. Inside shoes and outside shoes: The students will need to have 2 pairs of shoes at school. They do not need to be brand new shoes. As soon as they come to our new classroom door they will need to take off their outside shoes and change into their inside shoes which will be right by the door. They will need to remember to do this every time they leave the building for recess and lunch and after school as well. This will help keep our school floors tidier, especially at this muddy time of the year. When it starts to snow, the salt gets really messy as well. If your child does not have 2 pairs of shoes, they may also wear slippers inside until they get another pair of shoes, used or new, it does not matter.

2. Small 1 inch binder. We are starting a new language arts unit starting in the new year and they will need a binder rather than a duotang. This will make it easier for the students to add or take out exactly what they need without having to take out every item, which you would need to do in a duotang. There are cheaper binders at Walmart or even the dollar store.

Happy Almost Holidays

Next week (Monday December 12- Friday December 16) is a rather special week for a number of reasons.
1. THE MOVE: The first point being that (hopefully) this will be division 10's last week in the library. Starting in the new year we will be moving into Mrs. Middleton's old classroom!
2. BOOK FAIR: The Book Fair is here!! Our class will be allowed time to visit on Monday during their library time. Please bring your money during that time if you wish to purchase any items. They will also be able to browse after school. It will be held in the multipurpose room.
3. BOOK SHARE: On Tuesday afternoon (after our P.E. time) we will be having a book share. Thank you to Ms. Chapman, who has kindly opened her classroom to us for the entire first semester. She is now offering her books to us on this special, Tuesday afternoon. How cool is that?
What will the afternoon look like? The students are able to bring their favourite blanket or housecoat or stuffed animal, and most importantly if they have a favourite book at home, please bring it. We are going to find a cozy place in our classroom (the library) and use this time to read with our classmates. If you really want to, you can bring appropriate pajama's to school and change into them after our P.E. time.
4. CHRISTMAS ASSEMBLY: We will be having a Christmas Assembly on Friday Morning. More details to come.
5. CHRISTMAS PARTY: On Friday afternoon, Division 10 will have a christmas party in the multipurpose room. You are welcome to bring some of your favourite goodies to snack on. I will set up a food list with the class. Please do not feel obligated to contribute. Any items are appreciated though. If you do bring food to school please bring enough to share with our 24 classmates and a friendly reminder that we are a peanut free school.
6. LAST WEEK: It is also the last week before our winter break holidays. It should be a packed last week, but a fun last week. Just a reminder to the students, with all of the excitement please remember to have fun, but to always practice our virtue of self-discipline and respect.

Studying

I hope you were all studying this weekend for your science test. It will be on Wednesday.
Here are some of the ways to study that we spoke about in class:
1. Teach your family members about the things you have learned.
2. Have someone ask you questions about what you know.
3. Make yourself a test with questions that you think may be on the test. Answer them and see how you do.
4. Answer questions from the textbook
5. Go through your duotang and read everything that we have been learning.
6. Rewrite the notes that we have taken in class.

These are all great ways to remember and study the information for anything that you have been learning, whether it be: Science, Social Studies, Math, Language Arts, etc.
Hope this helps :)

Lately at school, we have been trying out some interactive learning websites. If you want to try them out at home for fun you can simply type in the URL "www.delicious.com/msrobertson"
This will bring up all of the "tags" on the right hand side. Simply click on a study topic and try out the sites.
Learning can be fun!

Post a comment if you have any questions of how to access this. Thanks :)

READING CALENDAR

Please make sure that you are continuously adding to your reading calendar each time you read at home. The front calendar part is to record the minutes you read and then get a parent signature beside each minute entry. The backside is to record the book you have read when you FINISH reading it. Please record the name of the book, how many pages the book has, and the date you finished reading. You may also record if you read a magazine, newspaper, etc.

For the month of November, your reading calendar is pink. Please keep it in your planner pocket so you remember to use it each time you read.

Ticket in the Door for Thursday Morning

Please remember to keep this a secret. Do not share this secret in the morning while you are lined up outside. This is also meant to be checked at home either in the morning before school or in the evening before you go to bed. Please do not come to school and ask to go to the computer lab.

Please share with me one part of the water cycle that you learned from class.
Just one word from the water cycle will be your ticket in the door! :)

Ticket in the door for Tuesday Morning

The secret code, so I know that you have looked on our blog page is your favourite fruit.
Please keep this secret in the morning before you come into class. Don't discuss with your classmates because you may give it away if someone has not completed their homework. When you see me in the morning greet me with telling me what your favourite fruit is.
That is all! :)
